How to Use This Raised Bed Soil Calculator
Measure the length and width of your raised bed in feet. Then enter the soil depth in inches.
The calculator will estimate how much soil you need in cubic feet and cubic yards.
Why Cubic Feet and Cubic Yards Matter
Cubic feet are helpful when buying bagged soil from a garden center. Cubic yards are helpful
when ordering bulk soil from a local landscape supplier.
Should You Order Extra Soil?
For best results, consider ordering a little extra soil to allow for settling, uneven ground,
and small measuring differences. This calculator includes a bulk soil suggestion with about 10% extra added.
Example Soil Estimate
A raised bed that is 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 12 inches deep needs about 32 cubic feet of soil.
That equals about 1.19 cubic yards.
